Initial visit:

Please read the following services that are currently provided at Precision Acupuncture Clinic, and the services may be updated or changed if needed. Thanks!

Part 1: Complimentary initial consultation (15 ~ 30 minutes, no charge)

The conversation between the patient and Dr. Zhou will help Dr. Zhou understand the patient's main health complaint(s) and the TCM health history. Dr. Zhou can then propose a customized acupuncture treatment principle for the patient. Dr. Zhou can also help the patient understand what acupuncture is and how the suggested acupuncture treatment approach can help reduce the symptoms and improve the overall health status. In addition, the patient is welcome to ask questions about the health issue(s) or the clinical visit. At the end of the complimentary consultation, the patient can choose to continue with acupuncture treatment or to complete the first visit.
(TCM: Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Part 2: Initial treatment (usually 90 ~ 120 minutes)

If the patient decides to proceed with the proposed treatment principle, this second treatment procedure usually takes about 90 ~ 120 minutes as it consists of the following:
If the patient decides to proceed with the proposed treatment principle, this second treatment procedure usually takes about 90 ~ 120 minutes as it consists of the following:
  1. Filling out the required medical forms by the patient (Estimated time: 15 ~ 30 minutes);
  2. Initial TCM consultation and examination to finalize the best treatment principle and protocols (Estimated time: 30 ~ 45 minutes);
  3. Customized acupuncture treatment (Estimated time: ~ 45 minutes).
Please note: The initial visit takes time as it completes required medical forms and gathers TCM symptoms to determine the best, personalized treatment principle and protocols that make up a set of consecutive treatment sessions, which are geared toward achieving effective clinical outcomes. Thus, please plan for about 2 hours for your first visit. (If a patient takes a longer time to fill out the required medical forms, to secure the consultation/examination time and treatment time, the first visit may take longer time. )

Follow-up visits:

A follow-up visit is to implement the personalized treatment sessions followed by the Initial Treatment during the initial visit. It usually takes about 60 minutes and consists of the following:
  1. Follow-up TCM consultation and examination to understand the treatment progress (Estimated time: ~ 15 minutes);
  2. Follow-up acupuncture treatment that makes a solid progress toward relieving clinical symptoms (Estimated time: ~ 45 minutes).
A follow-up visit can take longer than 60 minutes if the patient's symptoms or treatment progress requires a longer time for the TCM consultation/examination or for the acupuncture treatment, but it still can be expected to be less than 90 minutes.
A follow-up visit can be one of the following treatment forms:
  • Acupuncture
  • Electroacupuncture
  • Acupuncture and moxibustion
  • Electroacupuncture and moxibustion

Acupuncture treatments usually require a number of continuous, regular treatment sessions to achieve the goal of symptom alleviation for patients and health/wellness optimization in both patients and healthy people. Dr. Zhou will suggest a number of follow-up visits. Although the proposed follow-up visits are strongly suggested for the patient, it is understood and well-respected that the patient will make a personal decision regarding follow-up visits. In any case, we do our best to help each patient and wish each patient the best!

Please keep in mind that a patient’s symptoms may change during the whole process of visits due to the therapeutic effects of acupuncture treatments. Thus, Dr. Zhou may revise the treatment objectives and modalities accordingly to provide individual, optimized, and precise acupuncture services. Patients will be notified of such treatment adjustments, and the modified treatment procedures can then be applied upon patients’ acceptance.

Things to understand about your acupuncture visits:

Prior to your acupuncture visit and treatment

  • Please be advised to visit your physicians to consult on your health conditions.
  • Please continue using the medications or treatment given by your doctor(s).
  • Please have proper clothing to just expose body areas commonly used for acupuncture treatment, such as forearms, legs below the knees, feet, low back, and abdomen. If you have conditions involving less used areas, such as upper back, shoulders, upper arms, and upper legs, please wear appropriate clothing in order to just expose those treatment areas.
  • Please have a snack a couple of hours before your clinic visit to avoid dizziness during acupuncture treatment.
  • Please use the restroom before your treatment.
  • Please avoid strong perfume, as other patients may be sensitive to certain chemicals or smells. Please be advised to visit your physicians to consult on your health conditions.

During your acupuncture treatment

  • Please try to keep your body position the same without significant changes during the acupuncture treatment, especially the body areas with needles inserted.
  • Upon needle insertion, you may feel heaviness, soreness, or other sensations, which may travel along the limbs. These are normal sensations of acupuncture treatment.
  • During the acupuncture treatment, the acupuncturist will communicate with the patient frequently to optimize the therapeutic outcomes and to make sure that the patient feel comfortable with the needling especially for the patients who have not received acupuncture treatment before. In addition to the needling process, the patient will also have time, usually about 20 to 30 minutes, to relax as part of the treatment procedure, during which the acupuncturist may need to adjust the needles or electroacupuncture equipment to enhance the therapeutic effects.
  • Please let the acupuncturist know if you have any issues during the treatment instead of manipulating the needles by yourself, which could be dangerous to the patient.

After your acupuncture treatment

  • The patient can resume their regular work and activities but is advised to avoid heavy physical activities.
  • The relief of the symptoms can happen immediately after the treatment or over a period of several treatment sessions dependent on the individual disease status and body response to acupuncture treatment.
  • The symptom(s) could be exacerbated for a short period after the treatment and before the symptom(s) get relieved, which can indicate the effects exerted by the acupuncture treatment.
  • Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Zhou if you have any questions about the treatment. We do our best to serve you for the acupuncture treatment(s) you have received at Precision Acupuncture Clinic.

Only one patient can be scheduled for one treatment hour, which ensures that each patient receives full attention during the clinic visit. However, a patient can come early to wait in the waiting area.
